One of the first cornerstone programs that was started by TICC was the Family Homes that provides a safe home environment for children who have either lost their parents, or come from difficult home conditions. We now have four Family Homes – Fatuma House, Magdalena House, Harriet’s Children Home and Bahati House. Each of the Family Homes are run by a house parent who looks after the children in the home, the same way any good parent would. The numbers of the children in the house are kept fairly low to avoid any sort of “institutional feel”. The homes provide a an environment that is safe, peaceful and free from discrimination. Some of the children who have lived in these homes from a young age have now finished studies in higher education and are now looking after themselves. The homes were started by generous donors in Norway, and Bahati House is now run independently from a newly established NGO in Norway.
